Convoy escort for the Merkatariak Traders Consortium. Uses resonating "blades" on the sides for anti-grav, vs. the typical coil systems. Main cannon is an etheric "detuner." It neutralizes Van der Waals force, essentially acting as a disintegration beam.  Can be set to wide or narrow projection.

Woman in WWII London. From film "The True Glory;"  I watch WWII newsreels/footage on my breaks for Symbiosis inspiration.  I liked her look.

What's also interesting (to me) was the sense of unified purpose that seemed to be around during that war. Or at least the image of it that was sold via old movies like this. I know that there were black markets, and anti-war protesters, and all that. But it does make me wish that there could be something other than total war that could unify a nation or the "free world."

Tirhaelian sniper gun and ghillie suit. Biological components/link with user allows gun to act as its own spotter. Rifle is a gravity manipulation/compression gun. Creates ultra-high gravity beam that compresses all matter within a ~1' diameter circle around it. Sort of like a black hole gun, only it leaves behind compressed rods of matter; the matter is not destroyed as in a black hole.

Symbiosis spoilers, kind of:

From last week's Symbiosis progress newsletter. The Apocralites are never allowed to see the outside world without tech that lets them see the world via the world's interaction with the bio-ether. They can only see and hear normally when indoors. I had a problem making "causal" and "formal" headgear so people didn't have to wear these big clunky '40s mil-spec looking things all of the time. I tried hats, and had results I wasn't very happy with. (try making headgear that covers the eyes and ears without it looking like a superhero outfit. It's hard.)  Alex De Campi suggested gold contacts, and I looked up the history of contacts, and they did exist in a usable form back in the 1940s, so that's what I went with, along with miniaturized earpieces integrated into accessories/jewelry. The electronics are in the hat. Making a male version now.

Trying out @DaveMarquez's amazing brushes for PS 6 using my favorite Runaways character. I'm assuming she has the same taste in anime that I do.  I don't know if it's his brushes, or PS6, but I can suddenly draw in Photoshop now. It's like night and day. No awkward shaking, smooth control of lines. Amazing. I may drop Sketchbook now.

Approx 45min drawing.

A bit of new Symbiosis art. I'm currently roughing out pages and making little geeky things like this with more detail. Just enjoying the process of world building here, not going for something with BAM POW impact. ("Where does the ground hatch go? Oh, they need wood for that stove. A root cellar would be nice there." etc. )

is this free to use

Let me know what you mean by "this" and I'll be happy to let you know. Most likely yes, as long as you mention somewhere where you got it from and let others use it if you make any changes to it.

The Ingredients

Check out Will Hindmarch’s excellent Symbiosis related short story. The mundane in the fantastic has always interested me.

wordstudio:

Curious what people eat, and how they eat it, in a world based on Steven Sanders's #Symbiosis project, I wrote this little bit as a warm-up exercise.

The air smelled like hot oil and peppers as we got into line. Anavelle smiled over her shoulder at me, then exchanged a quick nod and smile with the guy in front of us. We were five people back from the food cart, which was built up on the back of a ballast worm so big it was almost overweight. Vinyl rope held the cart in place while the worm dozed.

I glanced at the chalkboard menu, all written in Sendish, but listed with numerals I recognized. craned my head to look inside the cart for a glimpse of the cooks at work and saw the pile of grannua on the grill, heads still on, legs like stems wafting in the heat of the coals.

Anavelle was watching me, trying not to laugh. The guy in front of us was doing the same.

"It's his first," she said to him, nodding toward me. A breeze blew her hair across her face.

The guy nodded. "I thought maybe," he said and adjusted his scarf.

Symbiosis final week contest! Symbiosis is in its final week, we...

Symbiosis final week contest!

Symbiosis is in its final week, we want to hit that goal ASAP, and I'm giving backers a chance to increase the value of their pledge!

So, every day from 1am CST this morning, (3-13) until the drive ends, we're having a contest.

Every day we go over $1,000, I'll pick one person at random (using a random number generator) from the day's backers, and boost their pledge to the next level up, while including their previous level. Or they will win a set of all four 11x17 prints, whichever is their choice.

Every day we go over $2,000, the reward will change. One person will be chosen at random and upgraded to the "BIBLIOPHILE LEVEL-CAPTAIN" reward, which is the hardcover, the ebook, and four prints. If they have already picked that, they will get everything from Captain plus the resonance tooth prop-artifact from the "Commodore" pledge level.

Every day we go over $3,000, the reward will change again to one person getting the "BIBLIOPHILE LEVEL-ADMIRAL OF THE FLEET" reward level, where you get the hardcover, the ebook, all four prints, and both props.

If you have already pledged, you can still get in on this; just increase your pledge by a minimum of $10!

One thing: If you definitely want a hardcover and can afford it, go ahead and pledge for it. If you are picked, you'll get your pledge for free.

Go here to pledge and good luck!

A lot of people out there are really excited about this project. I can't wait to get to work, and to see what everyone makes with it! GO GO GO!

Symbiosis: THE END STRETCH!

Hello! We’re at 42K, should hit 43 shortly. Eight days left! If you are supporting Symbiosis, or want to support it, please help get the word out. As soon as we hit our goal, I can unleash stretch goals like adding another 50 pages to the book! Please share however you can, and let’s blow past that funding goal!

A brief word of explanation. M'learned friend Steven Sanders of this parish is running a Kickstarter for his concept art project, Symbiosis. You should check it out because it's gorgeous. I was inspired by a sketch he did and, as it's a creative commons world he built, rather rashly offered…

First part of Alex's take on the world of Symbiosis. I think she's the first one to do anything with the world so far! If you have anything, feel free to send it my way. My name ran together at gmail.com
